Privacy Policy
Effective 7 October 2026
The short version
- No sign-up. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number to video chat.
- We don't record or store your calls. Video and audio go straight between you and the other person, who may record you (see the Terms).
- Because the connection is direct, the other person's device can see your IP address, which can show roughly where you are and who your internet provider is.
- If you report someone (or someone reports you), a snapshot of both screens and both IP addresses go to our safety team.
- We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't sell your data.
1. Who we are
Face2Face (“we”, “us”) runs face2face.ng and decides how the personal data described here is used. Contact us about anything in this policy at support@face2face.ng.
We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. If you use Face2Face from the UK or the European Union, you also have the rights described in section 9.
2. What we collect
When you video chat (no account)
- Connection details: your IP address and, from it, your approximate location (your state if you're in Nigeria, otherwise your country). Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, works this out for us.
- Your choices: your gender, where you are, and who you'd like to meet, if you choose them. Your browser remembers your gender and place on your device; while you're looking for someone, we use your choices to match you.
- A temporary session: a random id for your visit, who you're currently matched with, and connection messages needed to set up the call. This lives on our matching server only while you're connected.
- Technical data: your browser and device type, and short-lived server logs (for example, errors), which our hosting provider keeps for a limited time.
Your video and audio
Your camera and microphone are only switched on when you press Start, Check my camera or answer a call, and only after your browser asks your permission. Calls are encrypted and go directly between your device and the other person's (peer to peer). We don't record, store or watch them. To set up the direct connection, your device contacts our server and Google's public connection servers (STUN), which see your IP address.
Your IP address is visible to the person you're matched with. A direct connection means each device learns the other's IP address. An IP address can reveal your approximate location and your internet provider, but not your name or exact address. If that worries you, use a reputable VPN.
When someone files a report
When you press Report, your browser takes a snapshot of both video screens (the other person's and your own) at that moment. We store and send to our safety team: the reason chosen, the two snapshots, both people's IP addresses and approximate places, their session ids and the time. The same happens to you if someone reports you.
When you contact us or ask about sponsorship
If you book a banner or use the Sponsor form we collect your brand name, website, your name, email, phone or WhatsApp number, budget, message, the banner image, and your IP address. If you email us, we get your email address and whatever you write.
Your device
To keep the site safe without asking anyone to sign up, we give your browser a random device id, kept in a cookie and in your browser's storage, and we record a fingerprint of your device (things like screen size, graphics hardware and time zone, hashed together). These let us count people rather than tabs, ask repeat-reported devices to pass a human check, and keep a banned device out even after it clears its storage. They don't identify you by name.
Analytics and security
- Google Analytics tells us which pages are visited, roughly from where, on what kind of device, and which buttons are used. It uses cookies (see section 11).
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks you're human when you send a report or a sponsor enquiry, and Cloudflare protects the site against attacks. Both look at technical signals from your browser.
3. How we use it
- To run the Service: match you with someone, connect the call, and apply your preferences.
- To keep people safe: review reports, block people who break our Rules, stop spam and abuse (for example, limiting how many reports one connection can send), and protect against attacks.
- To answer you when you contact us or ask about sponsorship.
- To understand and improve Face2Face through analytics.
- To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
4. Our legal reasons
- Providing the Service you asked for (matching and calls).
- Legitimate interests in keeping Face2Face safe and secure, enforcing our rules, preventing fraud and improving the Service, balanced against your rights.
- Consent for camera and microphone access (your browser asks), and for analytics cookies where the law requires consent.
- Legal obligations, for example reporting child sexual abuse material or responding to a lawful order.
5. Who sees your data
- The person you're matched with sees and hears what your camera and microphone capture, and can see your IP address.
- Service providers that work for us: Cloudflare (hosting, matching server, database, email and Turnstile), Google (Analytics and connection servers) and, if you buy a banner, Bachs (bachs.io) for the payment. They may only use the data to provide their services to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety, including reports of child sexual abuse material and credible threats.
- A new owner, if Face2Face is sold or merged; this policy would continue to apply to your data.
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers.
6. Data outside Nigeria
Cloudflare and Google run worldwide networks, so your data may be processed in other countries, including the United States and countries in Europe. We rely on these providers' contractual and security safeguards for those transfers.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Your video and audio | Not kept. Calls aren't recorded. |
| Temporary session and matching data | Only while you're connected; it's gone when you leave. |
| Preferences saved in your browser | On your device until you clear your browser data. |
| Reports (snapshots, IP addresses, reason) | As long as we need them to keep Face2Face safe, deal with repeat abuse and meet legal obligations. |
| Sponsor enquiries and emails to us | As long as we're in contact about them and for a reasonable time after, unless you ask us to delete them. |
| Banner orders | Payment records as long as tax and accounting law requires. |
| Analytics | Under our Google Analytics retention setting (no more than 14 months). |
8. Keeping it secure
The site uses HTTPS, calls are encrypted end to end between the two devices, passwords are hashed, and only the people who run Face2Face can see reports. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't share personal information on camera.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it if it's wrong;
- delete it;
- stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it;
- give it to you in a portable format;
- withdraw consent you've given (for example, for analytics cookies).
Email support@face2face.ng. Without an account we can't tell visitors apart, so to find data about you we may need details such as the date and time of a chat and your IP address at the time. We'll reply within 30 days.
You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng), or, if you live in the UK or the EU, to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
10. Under 18s
Face2Face is for adults only. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 is using Face2Face, we end their access and delete their data, unless we need to keep it to protect a child or report to the authorities.
11. Cookies and storage on your device
| Name | From | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| f2f.prefs (browser storage) | Face2Face | Remembers your gender and place so you don't have to pick them each visit. |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Counts visits and how the site is used. Lasts up to 2 years. |
| Turnstile | Cloudflare | Checks you're human on the report and sponsor forms. |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or turn off Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Face2Face still works without them.
12. Changes
We'll update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant we'll say so on the site (and by email if you have an account) before it applies.
